Summary. Mirai-chan reads a page only when you ask. When you press Play, the text of the article (or of your selection) is sent to Mirai-chan's servers to generate speech with a self-hosted AI voice model, and it is not stored as text afterwards. No accounts, cookies, ads, analytics or trackers, and no data sales. Your library and cached audio stay in your browser.

1. Who is responsible

Mirai-chan (the Chrome extension, the API servers and the heymirai.me website) is developed and operated by Nipiko (nipiko.com), not a company. Privacy contact: support@heymirai.me. The operator's name and address will be provided without delay on request at this address.

2. Data processed

• Article or selected text: sent only when you press Play (after your one-time consent) to the Mirai-chan API (Cloudflare Workers) and the speech server (Amazon Web Services, Tokyo) to generate audio. It is not stored as text on the servers; it is processed only while the audio is generated.
• Generated audio: cached by a hash of the text (without the text) so it is not generated twice: up to 30 days at Cloudflare's edge; on the speech server in a size-limited cache that is cleared when full or restarted; in your browser up to 150 MB for 30 days.
• Random install ID, extension version, anonymous token: created on your device on first use and sent with each request, for free-tier quotas and abuse prevention. Install records are deleted after 90 days without activity.
• Quota counters (characters listened per day, hashes of counted chunks): Cloudflare D1 database (Asia-Pacific region), deleted automatically after 90 days.
• IP address and technical connection data (time, browser type): received by Cloudflare and AWS to handle connections. The Mirai-chan API stores IP addresses only as salted hashes (kept 90 days), never the raw address. Infrastructure providers process this data under their own policies.
• Operational logs (request ID, API route, status, latency, character count; no article text, tokens or raw IPs): Cloudflare, up to 7 days; AWS CloudWatch, 14 days.
• Emails you send us: used to answer you and kept as long as needed to resolve your request.
• Website visits: static pages served by Amazon CloudFront and S3. No cookies, no analytics; website access logging is not enabled.

Mirai-chan does not collect names, email addresses (unless you contact us), passwords, form contents, cookies, browsing history, the URL of the article, or the page's full HTML.

3. On your device, on our servers, by third parties

Article detection and extraction run entirely in your browser; on sites where you enabled automatic detection, the page is read locally to show the article, and nothing is sent until you press Play. Our servers (Cloudflare Workers with D1, and a speech server on AWS in Tokyo running the VieNeu-TTS model) check quotas and generate audio. The speech server has no public address; only the API can reach it. Cloudflare, Inc. and Amazon Web Services process data on our behalf to run the service. Google distributes the extension through the Chrome Web Store under its own policies. No third-party AI provider (such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google AI services) or external speech service receives your content, and your content is not used to train or fine-tune models.

4. Purposes and legal bases

Generating speech at your request, based on your consent given on first use and each time you press Play; quotas and abuse prevention, as necessary to provide a free service fairly and safely; security and operations (logs without content), based on our legitimate interest in a reliable service; answering your messages, at your request.

5. Cookies and browser storage

The extension and the website do not use cookies, analytics or advertising tools. The extension stores in your browser: in chrome.storage.local, settings, the time you consented, the install ID and anonymous token, and your library (page addresses, titles, article text and progress); in chrome.storage.session (cleared when the browser closes), the player state and current article for resuming, and text you chose to hear from the context menu; in IndexedDB, up to 150 MB of generated audio for 30 days. Clear it in Settings → “Dữ liệu trên máy” (data on this device) or by uninstalling the extension.

6. Sharing

Mirai-chan does not sell, rent or trade data and does not share it for advertising. Data goes only to the infrastructure providers above, or to authorities where the law requires it.

7. International transfers

The speech server is in Japan (AWS Tokyo). Cloudflare operates a global network, so requests may be handled in a data center near you and the database is in the Asia-Pacific region. The data in section 2 may therefore be processed outside your country.

8. Security

HTTPS everywhere; the speech server has no open inbound ports and is reached only through a Cloudflare Tunnel protected by Cloudflare Access and per-request HMAC signatures; secrets are kept in Cloudflare and AWS secret stores, never in the extension; data is minimized (salted IP hashes, logs without content, automatic deletion). No system is perfectly secure; please report security issues to support@heymirai.me.

9. Your choices and rights

You decide when data is sent: only when you press Play. You can turn off automatic detection, clear local data or uninstall at any time. You may ask to access, correct or delete data about you, or object to processing, by emailing support@heymirai.me. Because Mirai-chan does not know who you are, server records usually cannot be linked to you, but every request will be answered without delay, and server records are deleted automatically as described in section 2. You may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

10. Children

Mirai-chan has no accounts and does not ask for names, emails or ages. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents with questions can contact support@heymirai.me.

11. Changes

Updated versions are posted on this page with a new date. If Mirai-chan starts processing new kinds of data (for example for a new feature), this policy is updated before that feature is released.
